Trinity is a teaching congregation of the ELCA. This means that we are a site for seminarians preparing for pastoral ministry to spend a year of full-time internship under the supervision of Pastor Neumark and with the support and guidance of an Internship Committee and of the entire congregation. We also welcome part-time field work students from nearby seminaries. This is a wonderful, reciprocal ministry whereby Trinity gives and receives.
We have the custom of calling our interns by the title “Vicar.”
Trinity’s 2021-2022 intern is Vicar Elise Hynek who writes:
Vicar Elise (she/her) grew up in the woods of Wisconsin’s Driftless Area along the Mississippi River with her parents, three brothers, and a variety of exchange students. Her family has expanded to include two sisters-in-law and three loved niblings (two nieces and a nephew). She loves animals and cooking and eating new foods. In 2018, she did something she swore she’d never do and ran a marathon with her dad and younger brother.
Vicar Elise completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with majors in Art History and Spanish and a certificate in Ancient Mediterranean Studies. After college, she lived a year in England serving as a youth worker through the ELCA’s Young Adult in Global Mission program and then worked as a youth director in rural Wisconsin for 4 years.
Vicar Elise is currently working towards her Masters of Divinity at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Her favorite classes so far have been Hebrew Bible, preaching, and disaster spiritual care. In the summer of 2020 she worked as a Burn ICU chaplain in Denver, Colorado as part of her education. She is looking forward to doing ministry with Trinity and learning what ministry and life are like in a large city.
