Pastor Neumark retired earlier this year.
The Rev. Heidi Neumark has served as Trinity’s pastor since 2003. For nineteen years prior, she was pastor of Transfiguration Lutheran Church in the South Bronx.
Pastor Neumark was a founding member of South Bronx Churches, an ecumenical community organizing group that trained local leaders, built hundreds of low-cost homes, and established a top-ranked public high school
Pastor Neumark grew up in New Jersey. She completed her undergraduate studies at Brown University and received her Masters in Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. She spent a year at an ecumenical seminary in Argentina where she also worked with Servicio Paz y Justicia, a human rights organization.
In addition to being a local pastor, Pastor Neumark preaches and speaks at events around the country. She also enjoys writing. Her experiences in congregational and community ministry in the Bronx led to a highly acclaimed book, Breathing Space: A Spiritual Journey in the South Bronx (Beacon Press). Her second book is about the discovery of her Jewish roots and the story of her grandfather who died at the Terezin concentration camp: Hidden Inheritance: Family Secrets, Memory and Faith.
Her latest book will come out September 29th, 2020: Sanctuary: Being Christian in the Wake of Trump.
Heidi is married to Gregorio Orellano and they have two adult, married children and one grandchild, the joy of her heart.
